Message System Commands - Help
______________________________
[R]ead a Message - Help
_______________________
Subcommands:
[#], [F]rom, [T]o, [S]ince, [N]ext, [P]revious, [H]elp
Sub-subcommands:
More - [Y]es, [No], [C]ont, [O]rig, [T]hread, [#], [+-], [R]eply
At the command line, whether on the Main Board or in any one of
the available forums, by typing [R], for Read, you will be given
the Message Read command line.
[1 - 3345] = Available message numbers
[#] = By typing a specific number, that specific message will
be displayed. If it doesn't exist you will be given
the appropriate message.
[F]rom = Read message(s) FROM you.
[T]o = Read message(s) TO you ([Y]ours also works).
[S]ince = Read message(s) SINCE last logon.
[+] = Read the NEXT message.
[-] = Read the PREVIOUS message.
[H]elp = Help with the READ function.
[A]ll = This command does not appear on the Command Prompt. It
allows you to read the mail in ALL areas. If selected,
after reading the mail in the area you are currently
in, GAP will autojoin each of the Forums you have
access to, and will display the mail from those Forums.
You will actually BE in a Forum while GAP is displaying
the mail so any Mail Commands you issue will pertain
to the message base of the Forum you are reading (not
the Area where you first issued the 'A' command).
Prior to moving on to the next area, GAP will display the
following prompt:
Auto Reading Messages (Area)
[Enter] = Continue Reading, [Q]uit, [R]eset, or [S]kip :
"Area" will be the name of the Area GAP is about to read.
At this point, you have 4 choices. You may continue
reading messages in the Area displayed (the default), or
you may Quit and be returned to the Area where you started,
or you may Skip the Area displayed and move on to the next
Area.
The Reset Command is similar to the Skip Command. If
selected, GAP will skip the Area displayed but will set
your last read message pointer to the highest message
number in that Area.
Pressing [Enter] will end the message read function and return you
to the GAP command line.
You may stack any of these commands. For instance, if you wish to
read all the mail addressed TO you since last logon, at the command
line you can type:
R T S (or R;T;S) (R Y S also works).
If you would like to read all the mail addressed TO you since last
logon, in ALL areas, type:
R T S A (or R;T;S;A;) (or R Y S A)
As you READ messages, after each message you will be displayed
the READ MORE command line:
[Y]es = Yes, you want to continue. This is the default
response so you may simply press [Enter] instead
of typing the [Y] key.
[N]o = No, you don't want to continue. The program will return
you to the READ prompt.
[C]ontinous = Yes you want to read in Continuous mode.
[O]riginal = When reading a message, if you wish to refer to
the source of this message, by typing O, the original
message will be displayed. You then have a choice to
[K]eep Going Back along the thread or [R]eturn Home to
the message you were reading. As you thread using the
this command, you can [R]eply to a message at any time.
[T]hread = Messages are saved with specific SUBJECTS. If you wish
to follow a specific Message Thread, or subject, by
typing T, GAP will display all the messages in that
specific thread.
[#] = You may type in a specific message number to read.
If that message is PRIVATE, and not addressed to you,
you will be told that the message is private.
[+-] = You may type + and GAP will show you all messages after
the one you are reading. If you type -, GAP will show
all the messages prior to the one you are currently
reading.
[R]eply = Reply to the message you are currently reading. If you
decide to reply, you will be asked whether you wish
the message to be public or private.
The commands can be stacked at the command line:
R 1230+ = Read message 1230 plus all the messages after.
R 1230- = Read message 1230 and all messages PRIOR to it.
If you wish to move back and forth along a specific message thread,
by typing either T- or T+, GAP will move you in the appropriate
direction.
GAP keeps track of your default direction. If you are reading forward
thru the messages, then pressing T to begin reading threads will move
you forward from the current thread until there are no more messages
with that particular subject.
If you are not reading threads then simply pressing return will bring
up the next available message either forwards or backwards depending
on which direction you are going.
